How did you guys meet?
We met around 8 years ago playing the club circuit in London and eventually formed Tough Love in late 2011.
What was a fundamental track in getting you to produce your own music?
There’s so many to mention. We grew up loving almost everything the 90’s had to offer; tracks like Armand Van Helden – ‘You Don't Know Me’, Tori Amos – ‘Professional Widow’, Stardust – ‘Music Sounds Better With You’ are absolutely everything we love about house music. An amazing groove alongside timeless soulful vocals.
Tell us a little bit about the mix?
In typical Tough Love fashion, we’ve dropped some exclusives and remixes from ourselves coming throughout the year. Alongside the remixes, we've got forthcoming releases on our label Get Twisted as well as some quality promos from other labels getting heavy rotation in our club shows.
How do you feel about the reception of your debut album: "Like A Drug" off your "Past Future Present Album"
We're really happy with it so far. It’s had some huge support from guys like Huxley, Danny Howard, Jax Jones, DJ Target and Gorgon City. We never know how our music is going to be perceived, so it’s always a great feeling when you get such positive feedback.
What was the creative inspiration behind the album?
We love music and try not to pigeonhole our sound; unfortunately, the industry can occasionally do that. We love songs, storylines and interesting concepts that can’t always be expressed through club material. The album gives us an opportunity to showcase our capabilities and musical journey that people are less familiar with.
We write, produce and occasionally vocal our material so hopefully, the album gives the listeners a better insight into what Tough Love is really about! As expected, there’s music built for the clubs alongside some slower, more melodic material and a few cuts that hold real sentimental value to us.
Have you got any big plans for 2017, we heard your label Get Twisted turns 5?
Yes it does! It’s been an amazing journey so far, so we need to celebrate the 5th birthday in style. We're holding two massive parties. Firstly June 2nd we return to Egg (London) with Blaise, N:Fostell, Nastaly and our special guest, the legend that is MJ Cole. The response has been huge so were really looking forward to that.
Then on June 23rd the Get Twisted team take over the legendary Eden Ibiza. It’s our first time as a label on the island and joining us will be label mates George Kwali, LiTek and Blaise. Outside of Get Twisted, we’re still touring hard, with another US tour and a debut Australia tour on the horizon, so exciting times ahead!
