We catch up with House don, Carlos Sosa aka DJ Sneak ahead of his performance at Romanian festival Electric Castle this summer. Surely every true fan of Chicago House music will know his name. His career started in 1983 and he hasn't stopped ever since. Read on to find out all about the defining moments that sparked his love for music. This is DJ Sneak's moment.
For DJ Sneak, the track that kicked everything off was Mystery of Love by Mr Fingers aka Larry Heard. "The moment was Shibuya, Japan 1995. I thought to myself if I could make it to a place like Tokyo, I can accomplish anything in life. I breathe, talk, eat, live for House music. My passion has been my guide".
When he was about 24 he was taken to an Underground Loft Party in Chicago which deeply influenced his sound. "This was also a game changer as I got to listen and watch some of my DJ peers. My buddy Julio Bishop was responsible for showing me the light in the underground scene including North American Raves which set the stage for many of these new festivals".
So what do you do when struck by the light of Chicago House? DJ Sneak had a pretty clear vision. "I did what I actually wanted to do! With no restrictions, I made my path, I chose what to play and when to play. I was not the normal DJ wanting to be a star. I've always done this music thing from my heart. Call me old school but I care about everything that has to do with House Music, and I say MUSIC, because it's really the important part of DJ'ing. My passion for it has blessed me to be here today, still going out like an old soldier to tell the stories of the most beautiful tracks that I'll be hunting to play for you all. It didn't change my life, it is my life".
