Are you looking for the next best bar to visit in Mayfair? We are always looking, too, which is why we visit only the finest places to recommend to you. Our latest venture was to Mr Fogg's Residence- a cosy bar tucked away in the heart of Mayfair.
Mr Fogg's have three establishments across London; Mr Fogg's Tavern and Mr Fogg's Gin Parlour in Covent Garden and Mr Fogg's Residence in Mayfair. We visited the Residence to experience their brewed cocktails as part of their Tipsy Tea experience.
15 Bruton Lane, Mayfair, London, W1J 6JD
Mr Fogg's Residence was named after the famous adventurer, Phileas Fogg. He is known for his exploration of 'Around The World In 80 Days'. The bar is a clear reflection of this, hosting references to many lands. Flags hang proudly above the Victorian themed bar and travel references are scattered throughout the room.
Mr Fogg's released their Tipsy Tea in celebration of the British pastime. They offer an array of spirit or champagne infused cocktails and light 'snacks' of wraps and cakes presented on embossed fine bone china. The service is impeccable, as expected. Dressed in character, the staff are helpful in explaining the menu and directing you to flavours that you will most enjoy. They are also highly attentive and polite. If you go for the bottomless Tipsy Tea, your stream of cocktails will never end (until the table is requested back, of course).
It is definitely worth noting that Mr Fogg's Residence host events called The Explorer Series. Book yourself in for one of the dates to hear some of the best-known explorers share the details of their work and experiences (whilst you sip on cocktails, of course).
The interior of Mr Fogg's Residence is truly spectacular in all of the ways you would never imagine. Do I start at the elephant's foot stools or the (stuffed) alligator hanging from the ceiling? Inspired by adventurers Phileas Fogg's 'Around The World In 80 Days' exploration, the room boats references to a combination of cultures. It hosts globes, hanging bird cages, trunks and a display of penny farthing bikes and portraits. You will feel as though you have stepped back in time as your eyes will have no shortage of curious ornaments and decorations to look at, including animal skulls, skins and taxidermy heads mounted on the walls. Expect to be perched on a leather stool whilst enjoying your Tipsy Tea over a wooden coffee table, as there are no full-sized tables and chairs available.
For the full experience, treat yourself to the Tipsy Tea, available on Saturday's and Sunday's. If you can't decide on your cocktail of choice, opt for the bottomless tea. This way, you will be able to sample the whole menu, inspired from different areas of the globe. All of the cocktails are served in teapots to extend and modernise the traditions of the afternoon tea. Mr Fogg's collaborate with Hendricks Gin and Veuve Clicquot champagne to bring you the best flavours.
Price Range: The Tipsy Tea ranges from £40 - £72 per person.
Upon arrival, you will most likely check your maps to ensure you are in the right place, for Mr Fogg's does not look like any traditional bar. Located on the back streets of Mayfair, the Mr Fogg's Residence entrance much resembles a house, as the name suggests. A man will be waiting for you, where he will check your booking and promptly ring the residence bell for someone to show you in. The venue is not large, although it is intricate with both the seating numbers and the interior. To add character to the experience, the resident pianist plays and sings at the piano, offering live entertainment whilst you gradually get tipsier. This creates the perfect atmosphere for the duration of your visit.
What To Wear
The dress code for Mr Fogg's Residence is informal but elegant. This leaves enough leeway for you to be a little adventurous with your outfit (pun intended). For a safe bet, iron out your best Oxford shirt and wear it with a pair of smart trousers. Go for a black or grey pair if you like to keep your look understated, or a patterned pair to jazz things up a little. Finish off your look with a pair of loafers (without socks) and accessories with a classic watch.
